Rafael Nadal is a professional tennis player. Rafael is Spanish and he's known worldwide as "Rafa". Rafa is considered to be Number 1 in the world and even the greatest clay court player in the tennis history. He's often called "The King of Clay" and also "The Matador".
Rafa began to play tennis when he was 4 years old. In the childchood before the age of 9-10 he used to play with two-handed forehand and backhand but then Rafa was made change to play a one-handed forehand. Rafael plays left-handed.
He already was Number 1 from 18 August 2008 to 5 July 2009. Then Rafa regained the top status on 7 June 2010 (he has won his 5th French Open title).
He has won 7 Grand Slam singles titles, a record 18 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments. Also he has got the Olympic gold medal in singles in 2008. He participates in the Spain Davis Cup team. The team has won in 2004, 2008 and 2008.
Rafael's achievements in tennis were recognised and he has got the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports in 2008. The Award is named for the Crown Prince Felipe.
During this year Rafa has participated in the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, at the Australian Open warm-up tournament, at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open ATP 250 event in Doha, at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and at the Sony Ericsson Open.
